New Philadelphia Law

The City Council of Philadelphia, PA on 4/22/21 approved legislation – Bill No. 200625 – that makes it illegal for employers in the city “to require a prospective employee to submit to testing for the presence of marijuana” before hiring them for a job, according to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer.

However, the bill exempts jobs from the marijuana testing ban, such as law enforcement, employees who need a commercial driver’s license, healthcare workers, and “any position in which the employee could significantly impact the health or safety of other employees or members of the public” the Inquirer reported.

Safer Places clients affected by this legislation can contact us to request a drug test that will comply with the new law. In fact, all clients who engage in pre-employment drug tests can customize a test to include or exclude many different drugs which are commonly abused. It is a myth that all drug tests are alike and employers need to understand what substances are included in the tests we order on your behalf. If changes are desired (to add or subtract) we are happy to do this for you.
